Sketches of Martello Alley ~ Spring Edition 2018

The spring flowers will soon be giving that nasty snow its final push. We know it's cliché to use the whole "re-new, re-birth" analogy, but honestly, We're pretty done with winter.

It would be a disrespect to how Canadian it is to have the beauty of all our seasons if we didn't acknowledge the fact that it just make us more creative! With that in mind, we celebrated another great year of Froid'Art! A little fresh air, a little colour and a lot of refreshing, great art! This is truly a celebration of community and we couldn't bring it to you without the help of so many! We made a list below to help you appreciate just how amazing the bond is with the downtown business owners. We are proud to have worked with all of you. We also want to thank our media sponsors. They gave us great shout-outs (sometimes on tight timelines); but without you, there would be no Froid'Art. Thank you!

Mad Mosaics
We have also started featuring GUEST ARTISTS at Martello Alley. The results are amazing! It was an honour to represent Claire Williams of @madmosaics Her artist twist on mosaics was cheerfully coloured, thoughtful and very popular. Just what was needed to brighten the gallery! We love Clare so much, we may just have her come back.

Barb Carr
Barb Carr of www.barbcarr.ca creates some of the most creative visions in collage. Her artful renditions of nature through pattern, texture, colour and shape draw you in! Barb's art is also very popular, so if you haven't come to see her work, you should soon. Barb's art brings a beautiful cheer to the gallery.

Of course, we keep all our outdoor art -outdoors. That pop of colour is so good for the soul! Next time to come into the Alley, look up! The upper levels of the courtyard are full of art! Painted on up-cycled window screens, artist David Dossett puts art in some pretty unexpected places. They are all for sale and would look so awesome in your garden -All year round!

So while we look forward to spring and warm feet, we thank you winter. We thank you for making us find colour and light, innovation and imagination, community and connection.this a time when the monotones of a blanket of snow can give you snow blindness and greyness of the limestone is, well, depressing. In other words, you make us defy the bleakness we all start to feel after a long season. Winter, it's been nice, but....

And now bring on the tulips, robins, and cherry blossoms!

Have an artful day!
