Open Edition Linocut Series Prints
Nan’s "H-irises"
8 x 10 inches print
This hand-carved linocut by Rebecca McKelvie is printed on fine printmaking paper with rich, oil-based ink. Each impression is individually inked and pressed by hand, making every print one-of-a-kind. Subtle variations in texture and detail ensure that no two are exactly alike. Some editions have also been finished with delicate watercolor washes, adding another layer of depth and softness to the floral forms.
The title comes from a lighthearted family story: when Rebecca’s grandmother, Nan, was once asked about her favorite flowers, she answered irises, but with her thick Newfi accent, it was misheard as “horses.” The mix-up became a family memory that still brings laughter—and inspired the title of this print.
This piece celebrates both the beauty of the iris flower and the warmth of family stories that connect generations.
