by Rebecca McKelvie
This painting is rooted in Rebecca McKelvie’s connection to the small island community where her grandmother once lived. A boardwalk, maintained by local volunteers.
Rebecca has returned to Greenspond year after year. She walks the same path, listens to the ocean move against the rocks, and feels the wind come off the water. The landscape holds its ground , steady and familiar; offering a sense of stability and comfort in its constancy. Though she has moved and lived in many other places and though much time has passed since first visiting this place, it feels unchanged.
The Paths We’ve Taken speaks to returning to family roots to stepping back into a landscape that carries memory so strongly it feels as though time folds in on itself. In that return, past and present meet.
