Originally designed by John Powers in 1873, the building has played many roles in Kingston’s history, including a schoolhouse, badminton club, naval barracks, and even a Queen’s University laboratory. It was renovated in 2024, converting the limestone building into apartments. The project was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Frontenac Heritage Foundation.
