Karen Leggo
Originally from Montreal, Karen has been a Kingston resident for 25 years. Her passion for kayaking and the outdoors first got her interested in photography. Karen has been photographing wildlife for only 5 years, but her natural skill, keen eye and tremendous patience shows as a much more seasoned artist in her work. Always willing to grow in her art, Karen says “I am learning so much by seeing through the eyes of other artists”.
Karen makes regular hikes to Lemoine Point trekking off the trails hoping to capture images of her favourite subject, owls. Clearly an artist brimming with patience, it took Karen 2 ½ years to spot her first Sa-whet owl. She also kayaks in Algonquin Park and Frontenac Park and is rewarded with multiple shots of some beautiful wildlife afforded to her by the quiet movement her kayak provides. Kayaking is her passion, her release from daily routine and her artistic enabler.
A self-taught photographer, Karen’s work is a welcome addition to Martello Alley and her cheerful manner makes her a wonderful asset to everyone who meets her in the gallery.
