 Pat Shea

Pat Shea has been an artist as long as he can remember. He was encouraged and supported to develop his artistic expression by family and friends. Pat was recognized for his painting ability by his mentor, Mr. B. J. Terry, the art teacher at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute (K.C.V.I.). Terry's extensive knowledge and careful teaching continues to impact Shea's work. Pat, has been self taught since his high school days. He has been inspired by explorations of the Canadian North, Ireland, England, Brussels, Paris and Italy. Most of the influence comes from Canadian and European Impressionists. In the 1990s Pat's work could be seen in galleries in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. In Kingston you can see Pat's expertise in portraits of Mayor Gary Bennett hanging in the Council Chambers Kingston City Hall, and Arch Bishop Meagher at St. Mary's Cathedral. Look for some of Pat's commissions at Kingston Police Headquarters and Napanee Ontario Provincial Police offices. Recently, Shea has stepped into the arena of editorial or political paintings, with a series of Donald Trump paintings, the first released in January 2017. Pat's painting of Market Square is the cover of the history of Kingston book 'Kingston Building on the Past for the Future' by Brian Osborne. Pat Shea has shown remarkable development as a self-educated artist. Through his artistic explorations, he has been able to reflect the passion of his personal experience s, as well as the beauty he finds in the human body, architecture, and nature.
