Stephen Shay

​Stephen Shay is a passionate Canadian woodworker with a shop and studio in nearby Maitland, ON, within sight of the mighty, beautiful and ever changing St. Lawrence River. Much of his inspiration comes from the river, its history and lore. He is a retired clergyman known as The Wood Shepherd. His work is done in a rustic, Canadiana, folk art style.

​He celebrates history in his art, bringing it alive and available to be enjoyed. Many of his creations come from his divergent imagination, fleshed out in skills using carving knife and paint brush. Steve uses traditional Upper Canada woods like pine and white cedar, augmented with time-honoured authentic milk paint, stains and even edible acrylics.
