Boxcar #7 to Algoma

Laura Moreland

Many know that Algoma, Ontario is an area where the group of seven painted many of their most well known pieces.

What they do not know is that Lawren Harris whose family were the industrialist, family who were the Harris half of Massey-Harris farm equipment company.  Because he was wealthy, and interested in elevating Canadian art, he rented a boxcar annually to bring the group up to Algoma to paint.

This is my tribute to these annual excursions and to Harris himself for making the body of work from Algoma possible.
