Beat the Winter Blues with Art!

Ever wondered how lifeless the world would feel without art? According to a group of creative kids aged 5 to 13, it would be a dull, colorless, and utterly boring place—a lot like the typical Canadian urban winter. With its monochrome palette and endless sameness, winter can sometimes feel like it’s drained all the joy and vibrancy from life, especially once the festive lights and holiday decor are tucked away.

But don’t worry! David Dossett and the talented artists of Martello Alley are here to brighten your winter with the return of Froid'Art, now in its eleventh year. While it might not whisk you away to a sunny beach, this unique and joyful ice art display will inject a burst of color and creativity into Kingston’s winter streetscape.

Froid'Art showcases the work of local artists, reproduced on large sheets of plastic and frozen into stunning 300-pound blocks of crystal-clear ice. These ice blocks are illuminated at night, creating a magical, glowing spectacle that transforms the cold, gray city into an enchanting winter gallery.

Committed to supporting the downtown Kingston community, Martello Alley collaborates with local businesses and homeowners to sponsor these dazzling ice installations. A map of the artwork locations will be available both online and at Martello Alley, encouraging visitors to explore new areas, admire Kingston’s historic architecture, meet neighbors, and discover local businesses along the way.

Froid'Art is more than an art exhibit—it’s a free, community-driven celebration of creativity that brings people together during the chilliest months of the year. So, bundle up and get ready for some polar vortex magic! The exhibit launches at the end of January and will remain on display until the ice finally melts.

Don’t let winter get you down—add a little art and discover just how beautiful the season can be!

Froid'art will be arriving in downtown Kingston in late January.
