Ghosts of Martello Alley is a Little Book by Everdello (Joanne Stanbridge). It is a true story.

Neil Davie (1887-1932) ran a tinsmith shop at 203 and 197 Wellington St. On 14 Nov 1932, he died at his mother's house on Montreal St. On his death registration the doctor wrote poisoning by illuminating gas, 'suicide'.

Ten years earlier, Neil fathered a child with Catharine (Graham) Burke Jamieson (1880-1944). The baby was born prematurely and died 25 days later. On the death registration, Neil called the baby John Davie, though he and Catharine had never married.

Catharine's first husband John Northcott Burke (1880-1912) fainted on the railway tracks and was run over by a train near the K&P roundhouse (near the corner of Wellington St. and Place D'Armes) leaving Catharine with four young children.

Catharine's second husband, Lance-Corporal Harry Hugh Jamieson (1891-1918), was killed in action in France and was buried at Vis-en-Artois, near Arras.

Catharine died of a heart attack in Toronto in 1944.
