"Going up!" – A New Painting by David Dossett 🎿❄️
AQcrylic on canvas 16" x 40"
This one is personal. My latest painting, "Going up!", captures the joy of skiing—something I did as a kid, whether in the Laurentians or at Sydenham Ski Hill. It’s a serene winter scene: five children bundled up, enjoying the slopes. Three are skiing, while two ride the chairlift, surrounded by a peaceful snowy landscape. The stylized, abstract approach, bold colors, and textured brushstrokes bring the scene to life, evoking the thrill (and sometimes, the struggles!) of winter adventures.
Now, here’s the funny part—I hated my skis! While others had sleek, modern gear, I was stuck with my old white SIMPSONS-SEARS hand-me-downs, complete with lace-up leather boots and a sketchy cable binding that sometimes popped loose mid-run. And to top it off? My mom wrote my name on them in red nail polish—just in case someone might steal them. 😂 I was so embarrassed that I’d scrape snow over them in the lift line to try and hide the logo.
Looking back, I realize how lucky I was. Those ski trips, those childhood winters—they were magical. And I'd give anything to go back, even with those old skis.
Now, I want to hear from you! ⛷️❄️
