11x14" walnut ink on Birch Bark mounted onto board
This was my first piece on Birch Bark from a new series started last year. The bark is harvested from my wood pile, which means hours with a curved hunting knife carefully peeling it from the log, then alternating between weeks of drying, separating the layers, then a final flat drying. At this stage it is mounted onto a support and then stored until needed.
A very interesting media and so Canadian. This series consists mainly of reusing supports & inks that are available in the studio & bark being rescued from the wood fire. Each piece is totally unique & demands more creative analysis as to best
