The Kingston ‘Pen’ is a former maximums security prison located in Portsmouth a small community just west of Kingston downtown. Constructed in 1833-1834 is was opened as the Provincial Penitentiary for the province of Upper Canada. It closed in 2013. The complex is now a very popular tourist destination with scheduled guided tours.
