Reveille by Leith Channen
Though loons typically come in lone pairs, Rosebary Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park is home to several couples. One morning, predawn, we were awoken by a performance of several loons each taking a different call pattern, turning the lake into a chamber for their musical display. Their complicated interplay of calls was breathtaking and held us long after the lingering echoes were carried afar by the calm waters, reluctant to stir in our beds. This loon is a tribute to the beauty of their music.
