One of Ottawa’s oldest residential buildings, constructed 1832. Home to French- Canadian woodcarver Flavian/Pierre Rochon, who crafted elements of the nearby Notre-Dame Baslica in 1844. The building stands near the Basilica and forms part of a cluster of early 19th century structures that highlight Ottawa’s pre Confederation roots.

Michelle Elston Hoban is an Ottawa Artist whose work is inspired by character, history and architecture of homes and buildings. She is fascinated by the stories that houses tell, believing that every home possesses its own personality and sense of place. 

working in acrylics, Michelle captures the charm and individuality of homes throughout Eastern Ontario, with many of her paintings featuring Ottawa, Cornwall and Kingston. Her vibrant use of color and expressive style, brings familiar buildings to life, inviting viewers to see everyday architecture in a new way. 

In addition to this work, Michelle also accepts commissioned paintings, through Martello Alley, creating custom pieces that celebrate cherished homes, cottages and other meaningful places. Helping people preserve memories has become one of her greatest joys. 

Her work celebrates architecture, community and the beauty found in everyday places.
