It was a sad day in Kingston when the S&R Department Store closed after fifty years of business. It certainly had been a big part of my life. I painted this picture in 2009, just before it closed. The recession and competition from downtown merchants were part of the reason for closing.

Shirley Gibson-Langille was born in Toronto, but now calls Kingston home, where she is very active in the arts scene. As a Romantic Painter, Shirley works on location, taking the time to connect with her subject, always with a feeling of joy for the love of things just as they are!
