Spalted Maple Table with Gas Pipe Base by James Thompson (Timber by Tucker)
This spalted maple side table is best viewed in person as the subtle grain patterns resemble the contour lines of a well aged map while the blue epoxy provides vibrant contrast.
What is Spalted Maple? Well, Spalted Maple is technically not a specific species of Maple, but rather a general description of any type of Maple that has been allowed to begin initial stages of decay, and then subsequently dried (preventing further decay).
The kiln dried, live edge spalted maple slab was sourced in eastern Ontario and is mounted on a galvanized pipe base. The imperfections in the table top were filled with EcoPoxy died blue. Finally, the table was finished with Odie's Oil, a high quality finish.
