I wanted to explore some of those same qualities in my own work.

For this painting, I invited my four grandchildren to come out into our backyard and stand in the snow. I asked each of them to wear whatever they felt best represented who they were at that particular time in their teenage lives. I deliberately left the choice of clothing entirely up to them, wanting their individual personalities and characters to come through.

And these are the outfits they arrived in! There was one small complication: the two girls showed up wearing sandals. A little adjustment was required, and boots were eventually found!

What started as a fun family photo setup turned into something much more meaningful. Each grandchild brought their own personality and individuality to the scene, creating a moment in time that I wanted to preserve on canvas.

Teenagers is not just a portrait of four young people. It is a celebration of individuality, family, and that fascinating stage of life when young people are discovering who they are. For me, it is also a lasting record of four grandchildren, captured just as they were at that particular moment in their lives.
