“Windswept” - 16” x 20” acrylic on canvas.
When I was in high school I was aware of the group of seven paintings, but I didn’t appreciate them; I just didn’t “get it.” That changed dusing a class trip to the gallery at Kleinberg. I was struck by how the paint seemed to glow like neon. I was amazed at how thick and forceful the brush strokes were. Obviously, seeing these paintings on a textbook did not do them justice. I had to see them in person to appreciate just how vibrant and masterful they were.
This piece is my tribute to Varley and his stunning work “Stormy Weather Georgian Bay.”
