This piece begins as a hand-drawn design transferred onto a linoleum block. Each line, highlight, and textured area is carved by hand, removing the negative space and leaving the raised surface to hold ink. The block is then rolled with oil-based printing ink and carefully pressed against the paper, transferring the image with the rich, bold character unique to traditional linocut printmaking.
Once printed, some pieces are hand-painted with watercolor. Because oil-based ink resists water, the watercolor naturally settles into the carved and uninked areas while preserving the crisp black outlines. This resist process allows for luminous color layering while maintaining the graphic strength of the print beneath. The result is a striking balance between bold structure and expressive painterly detail.
Each print is slightly unique due to the hand-printing and hand-painting process, making every framed piece an original work of art.
