Hand carved wooden piece of a bartender’s muddler measuring approximately 6.5” x 1.5”.
What is a muddle?
A bartender's muddle (the technique) refers to the process of crushing fruits, herbs, or sugar in the bottom of a glass or shaker to release their essential oils and juices. The tool used to do this is called a muddler, which essentially acts as a bartender's pestle.
The goal of muddling is to build deep flavor profiles directly into cocktails like a Mojito, an Old Fashioned, or a Caipirinha. Mastering this technique takes a bit of finesse:
.The Artist carves these from bass wood, sealing them in boiled linseed oil to increase longevity and allow the surface to be painted. The muddler is a handcrafted detailed carving highlighting traditional artistry, serving as an educational artifact that reflects Canadian heritage and craftsmanship. Each piece is individually made, ensuring unique authenticity.
