"North of Kingston" by David Dossett
I painted this a few years ago because I found this pretty little spot on one of the roads leading north out of Kingston.
I wanted to do it on a wood panel like an oil sketch, similar to the oil sketches done by Tom Thomson.
What I find intriguing is that with these oil sketches that were done so quickly, the brush strokes were so strong and thick, the colors were so bold, and there was so much expression in the piece.
So for me, this little oil sketch was the perfect way to remember that late summer afternoon at that beautiful and lonely spot.
